Karun Nair Smashes Second Consecutive Century in Ranji Trophy, Crosses 9,000 First-Class Runs

The Group B Ranji Trophy match between Karnataka and Kerala is being played at the KCA Cricket Ground in Mangalapuram, Thiruvananthapuram. In this match, Karnataka's powerful batsman Karun Nair, who has played 10 Tests for Team India, has added another achievement to his tally with a remarkable performance. The 33-year-old batsman scored a brilliant century in the first innings against Kerala. He faced 161 balls for this century, hitting 10 fours and two sixes. At the time of writing this news, he was still at the crease, having scored 116 runs off 201 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes.

On Saturday, he batted brilliantly against Kerala. This was his second consecutive century in the current Ranji Trophy season. Prior to this, he had scored a brilliant unbeaten 174 against Goa. The match between Karnataka and Goa ended in a draw. Meanwhile, he scored his 38th first-class half-century against Saurashtra, scoring 78 runs.

By scoring a century against Kerala, Karun Nair became the sixth player from Karnataka to score 9,000 runs in first-class cricket. He is preceded by Rahul Dravid, Gundappa Viswanath, Brijesh Patel, Syed Kirmani, and Robin Uthappa.

Karun Nair was part of the Indian Test team that toured England this year for a five-Test series, but his performance was lackluster. He managed only 205 runs in eight Test innings. His poor performance meant he was excluded from the Indian Test team against the West Indies. However, he has staked a claim for a return to the Indian cricket team with strong performances in domestic cricket.
