Several opposition leaders received an alert on their iPhones five months ago about what appeared to be a state-sponsored cyberattack. Apple wrote to the politicians informing them that their phones are being watched by the government and that they could be hacked at any time. Five months after the phone hacking alert was issued, the government claims Apple still hasn't provided adequate information.

In an interview to PTI, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that the government has asked two questions to Apple. First- Are their devices secure and if yes, what is the reason for sending the alert to the opposition members.

He said that Apple will never accept that there is a flaw in its device. Not only Apple, no other company will accept this, even if their devices are flawed. Chandrasekhar said, "We are asking an obvious question: is your phone insecure? The answer is not entirely clear."

Earlier in a report of Washington Post, it was claimed that the government has instructed Apple that the company should be a little careful in political matters and also think about the political consequences before sending such notifications. The Washington Post, quoting sources, has said that the government has also put pressure on Apple for this. Apple has been asked by the government to behave softly in political matters. On this report, Rajiv Chandrashekhar had said that this is completely a fake report. He said that this report of Washington Post is baseless and based on imagination.

On the morning of October 31, 2023, an atmosphere of panic was created when many opposition leaders including Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shashi Tharoor, Mahua Moitra, Raghav Chadha received an alert from Apple that their phones could be hacked. Is. Many leaders took screenshots of the notification received from Apple on their X account and took the Modi government to task. After the alert from Apple, the opposition has attacked the government and accused it of espionage.
