Two Afghan cricketers, Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, have been sanctioned by the ICC. The two cricketers were charged with a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct in Thursday's Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are found guilty of a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct. Also, a demerit point has been awarded to the disciplinary records of the two players, making it their first in 24 months.

Noor Ahmed was charged for contravening Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, pertaining to showing dissent at an umpire's decision in an international match. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was found to have violated Article 2.2, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.

During the 16th over of Sri Lanka's innings, Noor Ahmed dissented when the umpire declared one of his deliveries wide. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, in frustration, forcefully smashed the stumps with his towel during one of his overs. The Afghan players admitted their guilt in the matter and accepted the sanctions proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Therefore, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Afghanistan lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in Thursday's Asia Cup match and were eliminated from the tournament.
