A new 'AI Mode' button has arrived in Chrome on iOS and Android, and here's how it works.

Google is improving the Chrome browser for iPhone and Android users. A new 'AI Mode' button has been added, bringing mobile functionality closer to the desktop version. This appears right below the Google search bar, right next to the Incognito Mode icon, allowing users to access advanced AI features that Google operates without having to navigate through any menus or settings.

The AI Mode button grants users direct access to Chrome's Gemini-powered AI search tool, which will let users execute queries that are more conversational and complex. Unlike standard search, Gemini can understand multi-part questions, interpret context, and provide further information based on previous answers.  This feature is especially helpful for research, travel planning, or troubleshooting tasks. For example, users can ask follow-up questions in natural language or refine results, making Chrome more than just a browser, but also an intelligent assistant.

According to Google, this feature is designed to bridge the gap between search and conversation, making finding information faster and more intuitive. It leverages on-device and cloud-based AI capabilities to provide answers more accurately and efficiently. The integration of Gemini into Chrome is part of Google's larger goal of incorporating generative AI tools into its entire ecosystem—such as Gmail, Docs, and the Android operating system.

Currently, the AI Mode button is rolling out in the US on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. It will expand globally in the coming weeks. Users outside the US may have to wait a bit for regional availability, as Google is still working to improve the experience and adapt it to local data policies.
