Flipkart fined Rs 1 lakh by Consumer Authority

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on e-commerce company Flipkart. This fine has been imposed on Flipkart for selling substandard quality (not meeting quality standards) domestic pressure cookers. According to CCPA, Flipkart has earned a total of Rs 1,84,263 by selling such pressure cookers on its e-commerce platform.
CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare said Flipkart has been fined Rs 1 lakh for selling substandard pressure cookers on its platform and violating consumer rights. Orders have been given to recall 598 pressure cookers sold by the companies and refund the money to the customers. Apart from this, the company has also been asked to submit the compliance report within 45 days.
Earlier this month, e-commerce major Amazon was also fined Rs 1 lakh for selling pressure cookers that did not meet quality standards. Apart from this, in March this year, the CCPA imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on e-commerce companies Paytm Mall and Snapdeal for selling pressure cookers ignoring the set norms. Orders were given to recall these pressure cookers sold by the companies and refund the amount paid by the customers.
The government has issued a Quality Control Order (QCO) for pressure cookers asking consumers to use the standard mark to avoid the risk of injury and damage. Domestic pressure cookers are required to be manufactured as per IS 2347:2017 standard.
