Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnav opined on Friday that there is a critical need for cross-platform standards and unequivocal guidelines for ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He also urged a combined fund for emerging technologies and a close partnership between government, industry, and creators.

Vaishnav was speaking at the 'Global Media Dialogue' held in connection with the ongoing World Audio, Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan, along with delegates from several other countries, were also present on this occasion.

He said that this global dialogue is based on the spirit of creativity, culture and cooperation. Vaishnav said, "It is the responsibility of the government to give every person an equal opportunity to tell their story to the world. We have to provide incentives to promote local content and strongly enforce intellectual property rights."

He also said that it is important to support policies that preserve and promote cultural diversity, as it is this culture that connects people across borders.

The minister also clarified that there is now a focus on local stories across the world and in such a situation, it has become important to strengthen relations between people and countries.

The Union Minister said, "Collaboration between the government, industry and content creators is no longer an option, but an imperative. We need practical measures like co-production treaties, which can make licensing and talent movement easier. Along with this, joint funds for new technologies, shared standards and clear guidelines for the ethical use of AI are very important."
