Doctors removed forceps from the stomach of a 30-year-old woman in Kozhikode, Kerala. It is a scissor-like instrument that is used to hold vessels during operation. Harshina had these forceps in her stomach in 2017, which were left by the doctors during her cesarean.
For 5 years, Harshina Heavy was controlling the pain with the help of antibiotics. Last month, on September 17, the doctors of Kozhikode Medical College pulled out the forceps.
Harshina had her third cesarean in 2017 at the Kozhikode Medical College. Prior to this, two caesareans were done in a private hospital. According to Harshina- After the third surgery, I started having severe pain. I thought it was due to cesarean surgery. I have seen many doctors. The pain had become unbearable. The forceps were pressing on my urinary bladder and causing an infection.
Harshina has filed a complaint against the doctors for leaving the forceps inside the body while performing the surgery five years ago.
As soon as the matter came to light, Kerala Health Minister Veena George, acting on Harshina's complaint, ordered an inquiry into the incident on Saturday. Along with this, the Health Secretary has been asked to submit a report soon. Veena has said in a statement that strict action will be taken against those responsible. Kozhikode Medical College has also ordered a probe.
