In the third match of the IPL 2026, the Chennai Super Kings set a target of 128 runs for the Rajasthan Royals. After losing the toss, the Chennai Super Kings decided to bat first. The team had a rough start, and eight of the players did not even manage to get double figures. The team got all out for 127 runs in 20 overs. Both Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad managed to get big scores.

This match was held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Riyan Parag won the toss and asked the Chennai Super Kings to bat first. Both Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad started the match, but both got out for 6 runs. Samson got out to Nandre Burger, and Gaikwad got out from the hand of Jofra Archer.

Ayush Mhatre then failed to open his account and was dismissed by Burger. Matthew Short was then dismissed by Sandeep Sharma. Sarfaraz Khan and Kartik Sharma combined to take the team past 50, but Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed at 51. Sarfaraz Khan scored 17 runs off 12 balls, while Kartik Sharma made 18.

Shivam Dube managed just one six, falling to Ravindra Jadeja. The team's situation worsened after this. Jamie Overton, coming in at number eight, saved Chennai Super Kings' honour. At one point, the team looked to be all out for 80, but Overton's 43-run knock took the team to 127. Noor Ahmed and Matt Henry then departed for 5 runs each, while Anshul Kamboj remained unbeaten on 7 off 10 balls. Overton faced 36 balls, scoring 43 runs with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes, and was run out on the fourth ball of the last over.

Jofra Archer took 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs, while Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets for 18 runs in 3 overs. Nandre Burger also took 2 wickets but conceded 26 runs in 4 overs. Brijesh Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, and Ravi Bishnoi also got 1 wicket each.
