Anisimova Cruises Past Haddad Maia; Osaka Stuns Gauff to Reach US Open Quarters

Amanda Anisimova defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-0, 6-3 in straight sets to enter the US Open quarter-finals on Tuesday, September 2. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka made a big upset by defeating Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 to make it to her first Grand Slam quarter-final after four. Amanda Anisimova will face second seed Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals, while Naomi Osaka will face 11th seed Carolina Muchova of the Czech Republic.

Anisimova broke Haddad Maia's serve in the very first game, and after that, her game became more aggressive. She did not give Haddad Maia any chance. Serving brilliantly, she hit deep and accurate two-handed backhand shots on the court. The second set was more competitive. Haddad Maia's serve was broken again in the opening game, but she got a break after losing seven games in a row. However, Anisimova bounced back immediately, saved the game by avoiding a break point in the fourth game and despite Haddad Maia's patience, took the break again in the last game to ensure victory.

Anisimova, who reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros in 2019, took her Grand Slam record to 42-22 with a win over Haddad Maia. She improved her best record this season to 35-14. Now Anisimova will face second seed Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals. This will be the second match between the two. Anisimova will try to avenge her defeat to the Polish player in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Earlier, Naomi Osaka defeated Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 to enter her first Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2021.
