42 lakh marriages in five months, business worth Rs 5.50 lakh crore from Band-Baja-Baraat, CAIT estimates

Marriage Economy: The constant marriages that occur during the months of marriage and the associated economy also come to dominate the conversation. According to CAIT, up to 42 lakh marriages will occur this season through July 15. An estimated Rs 5.50 lakh crore in business will result from this.

This current marriage season will see about 42 lakh marriages throughout the nation. From these, an estimated Rs 5.50 lakh crore in business is anticipated. Four lakh marriages will occur in Delhi alone during the wedding season, which runs from January 15 to July 15. The combined value of these marriages, including purchases and sales, is projected to be Rs 1.50 lakh crore. Last year, the season that ended on December 14 saw about 35 lakh marriages. This resulted in a business of Rs 4.25 lakh crore across the country.

According to CAT Research and Trade Development Society, the research arm of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAT), there will be about seven lakh more marriages this time compared to the last season. The turnover is also expected to increase by about Rs 1.25 lakh crore. This assessment has been done by talking to traders and service providers across the country.

CAT's National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal said that traders across the country are fully prepared. There is sufficient stock to meet the demand as per the customer's choice. Jewellery, sarees, lehenga-chunni, furniture, clothes, shoes, dry fruits, sweets, fruits, puja wear, grocery, electrical goods, electronics and various gift products are in highest demand.

Banquet halls, hotels, open lawns, community centres, public parks, farmhouses and wedding venues have been booked across the country. Booking of other facilities including tent, decoration, crockery, catering service, cab service, photographer-videographer, band, DJ, carriage, lights, dhol, and plates is also being done rapidly.
