Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday arrived at the European Union Parliament, Europe's largest parliament. Here he started his speech with the slogan 'Victory to Ukraine'. In a speech given just 15 days before the completion of one year of the war, Zelensky lashed out at Russia.
During this, EU MPs gave him a standing ovation twice. In his speech, Zelensky announced that Ukraine would become a member of the European Union. Against which Russia has been warning Ukraine for years.
In his speech to the EU Parliament, Zelensky thanked European leaders who helped Ukraine. He said that Russia is attacking not only Ukraine but also Europe's way of life.
Accusing Putin of disturbing the peace of Europe, Zelensky said – We will never let this happen. Putin is a dictator who wants to fulfill his purpose by using Soviet weapons.
Zelensky also said that it doesn't matter who we are but we have to fight for our honour. For our children and their children's dreams, their safety is first and foremost. We cannot at any cost allow Russia to succeed in taking away our Europe from us.
After the end of his speech, Zelensky was honoured by the President of the European Union i.e. EU Parliament, Roberta Metsola, by giving her flag. After this, Zelensky officially applied to join the European Union. According to BBC, Ukraine will get EU member status in June.
Zelensky had met British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olof Scholz before his speech at the EU. Zelensky urged France and Germany to send fighter jets and heavy weapons as soon as possible to give a tough challenge to Russia.
At the same time, President Macron said that France is with Ukraine for victory, peace, and Europe and for people to get their rights. We will continue our efforts to provide assistance to Ukraine. He said that the future of the whole of Europe is at stake in Ukraine. Russia cannot and should not win.
Earlier, Sunak had greeted Zelensky at the airport with a hug. Zelensky also gave a speech in the British Parliament. During this, he thanked the people of Britain on behalf of the 'War Heroes' of Ukraine. He also met King Charles at Buckingham Palace.
