New start of AI revolution in India, Ashwini Vaishnav launches IndiaAI Compute Portal and AI Kosh
India AI: Vaishnav said that in the next 3-4 years India will develop its own GPUs, which will compete globally. He also said that these GPUs can be used in India at very low cost (less than Rs 100 per hour).
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav launched a series of new initiatives on Thursday on the occasion of one-year anniversary of India's mission to develop AI. They include the India AI Compute Portal and AI Kosh Data Set Platform. These steps aim to enhance AI innovation in India and facilitate access to technology.
This new gateway in the cloud will provide access to more than 18,000 GPUs, cloud storage, and other AI services to researchers, startups, students, academics, and government departments. With this, the groundwork is being laid to develop India's own foundational model. Vaishnav said 67 applications have been received for this.
Citing the example of the Chandrayaan mission, he said that India landed on the moon at a very low cost and under this strategy, it will also develop its foundational model, which will be much less expensive than other countries.
