Shadow of doping on tennis, three players including Max Purcell found positive this year

Another star tennis player has been accused of violating doping rules in the year 2024. Australia's men's doubles player Max Purcell has admitted to violating the rules, after which he has been temporarily suspended. Earlier at the beginning of the year, world number one men's singles player Janik Sinner and number two women's singles player Iga Switek were also found guilty of violating the rules. In the last few years, many doping cases have come to light in tennis. In which players cite the reason for accidentally consuming banned drugs.

The two-time Grand Slam men's doubles champion, Purcell, confessed to breaking the rules of the World Doping Agency. Stating this inadvertently, the 26-year-old player said that he had taken more than 100 ml of vitamins, beyond the limit as prescribed by WADA. Purcell duly informed the International Tennis Agency as his medical report came in last week. Admitting anti-doping rule violations, Purcell has been provisionally suspended.

It would be of pertinent to note here that subsequently after being dope-positive, a temporary ban has been imposed on him from playing, coaching, or taking part in any tennis tournament. The ITIA couldn't give detailed information with regard to the duration of Purcell's ban, but it is effective from December 12. He may also be out of the Australian Open, which is going to start on January 12.
