PM Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer Showcase Warm Ties at Global FinTech Fest 2025
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is on a visit to India. He met with PM Modi, and warmth was evident between the two leaders. PM Modi shared a photo on social media showing him sitting in the same car with Starmer. Starmer urged the early implementation of the India-UK trade agreement and described it as India's most ambitious. The two countries also signed a defense agreement.
While on a visit to India, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The warmth between the two leaders was evident. PM Modi posted a photo with the British PM on social media, showing them riding in the same car.
Along with the photo, PM Modi wrote, "The India-UK friendship is progressing rapidly and is filled with immense passion! A photo from this morning, when my friend Prime Minister Starmer and I began our trip to attend the Global FinTech Fest."
The photo shared by PM Modi was taken before attending Global FinTech 2025 in Mumbai. This is Starmer's first official visit to India since assuming office in July 2024.
British PM Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday and led a UK trade mission to India, which included over 100 business, academic, and cultural delegations. Starmer urged the early implementation of the recently signed India-UK trade agreement, saying it should be implemented as soon as possible.

At the Global FinTech Fest, he described the India-UK Free Trade Agreement as "India's most ambitious trade agreement to date." Negotiations for the free trade agreement began in January 2022. The two countries signed the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) in July 2025.
A landmark defence deal was also announced, under which Britain will provide India with lightweight multi-role missiles manufactured in Northern Ireland worth approximately $468 million, to further strengthen security and defence cooperation.
