Some modifications are being prepared for the convenience of passengers in the Railways. The biggest modification will be in the reserve system. Ticket-booking process for tickets will be more transparent and convenient. Passengers will receive confirmed/waitlist information eight hours before the train's departure. Currently, the reservation charts are prepared four hours before the train's departure and resulting in hardship for the travelers on the waitlist.

Especially, travelers from other states face hardship due to the fact that the position was not certain until very late. The new method of reservations will be implemented by December 2025. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently studied these reforms and declared several important decisions.

The rules for instant ticket booking will also be tightened. According to the proposal of the Railway Board, the reservation chart of trains that have to depart before 2 pm will be made by 9 pm the day before. This will give information about the status of their confirmation to those on the waiting list. This will enable them to make alternative travel arrangements if needed.

The Railway Minister has approved the proposal. He says that the ticket booking system should be transparent, easy, and effective. All systems should be made state-of-the-art by keeping the experience of the passengers at the center. Every stage from ticket booking to travel should be technology-based and passenger-friendly. The task of making the new reservation system easier has been given to the Center for Information Systems. The new system will be about ten times more capable than the current capacity.

The booking capacity will also increase. Currently, 32 thousand tickets are booked in a minute. In the new system, more than one and a half lakh tickets will start getting booked. The capacity of inquiry will also increase. Currently, there is a capacity of four lakh inquiries every minute, which will increase to 40 lakh. The new system will also have many other facilities. Reservation forms can also be filled out in many different Indian languages. There will also be an option to choose the seat of your seat. There will be special facilities for Divyangjans, students, and patients. There will be a fare calendar, which will tell how much the fare is on which day.

Tatkal ticket booking has been made extremely practical to curb brokers. It will be made effective from July 1. In the new system, only authenticated passengers will be able to book Tatkal tickets. For this, registration will have to be done on the IRCTC website or app.

OTP-based verification will also be started for Tatkal tickets by the end of July. Its verification will be done through the Aadhar card or other government ID available in the Digi Locker. The Railway Minister has instructed the officials to make the verification system extremely comprehensive and practical, so that the identity of the passenger can be ensured.
