Mobile Internet Service Suspended for 8 hours in Assam: The government has suspended mobile internet services for eight hours to prevent any disturbance in the Direct Recruitment Exam in the state.
In view of Direct Recruitment Examination, mobile internet services have been suspended for the eight hours in Assam on Sunday, 29 September from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Due to this, there may be some problems with the residents of the state. More than seven lakh candidates would be appearing in this written test in 27 districts of the state. Internet service would be shut from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.
However, broadband connectivity based on voice calls and fixed telephone lines would remain operational. Recruitment examination is scheduled to be held today in two shifts for which as many as 7 lakh 34 thousand 80 candidates are expected to appear. The first phase comprising posts of Bachelor Degree Level Class-3 will be from 9 am to 12 noon, while the second phase, for the posts of HSLC (Driver), will continue from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The test would be conducted at 822 examination centres across Assam.
An official order issued before the exam said, "Some examination centers have a long history of cheating and other irregularities." According to the official order, "It has been decided to shut down mobile internet/mobile Wi-Fi/mobile data services across the state from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Sunday during the recruitment exam. This decision has been taken to conduct a fair and transparent examination and to maintain public safety." The Assam administration also fears that anti-social elements or organized groups will try to take advantage of the situation by spreading rumors through social media and may try to destabilize the examination process.
