Maruti sets the record after six years with the highest-ever sales of 43 lakh automobiles in 2024
Vehicle sales: Maruti has broken the record of highest-ever annual wholesale sales by selling 17,90,977 lakh vehicles in 2024. The company had earlier sold a record 17,51,919 vehicles in 2018. Hyundai Motor India also sold a record 6,05,433 vehicles in 2024. This was the fourth consecutive best year in terms of sales for Tata Motors.
A record 43 lakh vehicles were sold in 2024 due to continued demand for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and increased car sales in rural markets. With this, the automobile industry surpassed its previous best performance of 41.1 lakh vehicles sold in 2023. Last year, major companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Toyota Kirloskar, and Kia recorded their highest annual sales. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said, 41,09,000 lakh vehicles were sold in 2023. On this basis, a 4.5 to 4.7 percent growth was registered in 2024.

It was in 2024 that Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd categorically stated that 41,09,000 lakh vehicles were sold in 2023. A 4.5 to 4.7 percent growth was registered in 2024 in this basis.

The automaker moved 5.65 lakh vehicles during this period. While Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded its best-ever sales with 3,26,329 units, Kia India sold a record 2,55,038 vehicles with six sales growths.
In the luxury segment, retail sales of German company Audi cars declined by 26.6 percent to 5,816 units during the full year in 2024 compared to a year ago. The company sold a total of 7,931 vehicles in 2023. The two-wheeler and commercial vehicle sales also witnessed a boom in December 2024. Suzuki Motorcycle sold 96,804 units of two-wheelers that had grown 22 percent. Bajaj Auto sold 3,23,125 vehicles including two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. VE Commercial Vehicle Ltd sold 8,324 commercial vehicles. The figure was 8,026 in December 2023.
