Prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) experienced yet another significant loss. Lungi Ngidi, a fast bowler from South Africa, has also been ruled out of this IPL season, following England's explosive batsman Harry Brook. Ngidi made this choice as a result of her injury.
Earlier this year, during the series against India, Ngidi sustained an ankle injury. After that, he is seen battling nonstop. Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk has been added to Delhi's squad to replace Ngidi. In addition to batting strongly in the top order, this 21-year-old Melbourne all-rounder can also produce leg spin.
Delhi Capitals signed Fraser-McGurk for a payment of Rs 50 lakh. 'Delhi Capitals have added all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk to the team as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi for IPL 2024,' the IPL stated in a statement. Ngidi's injury kept him out of action for the upcoming campaign. At a base cost of Rs 50 lakh, he has joined the team.
McGurk has represented Australia in two ODIs. In February 2024, he played his first international match against the West Indies. To date in his T20 cricket career, he has amassed 645 runs at a strike rate of 133.54 and an average of 20.15 in 37 appearances. He scored 257 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 158.64 in the last season of the Big Bash League (BBL).
Earlier, Delhi had suffered a big blow when star English batsman Harry Brook withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons. He recently returned home after England toured India. His grandmother had passed away and he wanted to be with his family. The Capitals have not yet announced the name of Brook's replacement.
