IndiGo Pays ₹22.68 Crore Compensation After Massive Flight Disruptions in December
IndiGo Compensation News: Indigo compensated passengers ₹22.68 crore due to flight cancellations and delays in December. The government presented the figures in the Rajya Sabha. Let's explore the details.
The country's biggest airline, Indigo, has experienced substantial losses as a result of the disruptions in flights during December. According to data presented by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Indigo alone spent ₹22.68 crore in compensation and facilities to passengers.
This large sum was paid to passengers who were experiencing troubles such as cancellation of flights, delayed flights, or denied boarding. The government informed the House that all domestic airlines, together, had paid a little over 24 crores to passengers during December, with the highest amount being contributed by Indigo.
IndiGo’s problems, however, are not over, as in early December, the airline canceled 2,507 flights, while more than 1,800 were delayed between December 3 and 5, affecting over 300,000 passengers. The problems are now such that the DGCA has had to reduce IndiGo’s winter schedule by 10%.
Other airlines lagged far behind IndiGo in terms of compensation; while Tata Group's Air India and Air India Express together paid around ₹74.61 lakh, SpiceJet paid ₹40.09 lakh and Akasa Air paid ₹21.06 lakh.
