IndiaSpora, a US-based Indian diaspora group, said that H-1B visas do not only help in filling gaps, but in creating a whole new economic system. IndiaSpora said that H-1B holders have been the architects of innovations in America. They have created companies that have created millions of jobs and earned billions of dollars as tax for the US government.

IndiaSpora added that limiting the number of H-1B visas will not only affect businesses but will also result in a dearth of foreign researchers in research labs and universities. This may result in cuts for higher education and immense intellectual loss.

According to Indiaspora, H-1B professionals strengthen technology, entrepreneurship, and the tax system. Startups also rely on them to affordably hire people with specialized skills and compete with larger companies. H-1B visa holders also play a significant role in scientific research and development, which is the engine of America's long-term economic growth.

According to the Indiaspora Impact Report 2024, prepared with the help of the Boston Consulting Group, India has led the number of unicorns (companies valued at over $1 billion) created in the US over the past five years. Of these 358 unicorns, 72 were founded by Indian immigrants. These companies are valued at over $195 billion and employ over 55,000 people.

According to Open Doors data (2022-23), 2.7 lakh Indian students are studying in American universities, representing 25 percent of the total international student population. These students contribute approximately $10 billion annually and create approximately 93,000 jobs. Indiaspora also reported that 13 percent of US research papers have Indian-American co-authors, and 11 percent of computer patents are held by Indians.
