ICC Imposes Fine on Indian Women’s Team After Slow Over-Rate in Visakhapatnam Match
ICC has imposed a fine on India for maintaining a slow over-rate: The Indian women's cricket team has been fined 5 percent of their match fees, in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences.
The ICC has penalized Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian team for their slow over-rate in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 league stage match against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The Indian women's cricket team was one over short of the mark. Consequently, the team has been fined 5 percent of their match fees in line with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which concerns minimum over-rate offences.
The penalty was handed out by Michel Periera of Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees on complaints by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, and third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacqueline Williams.
An official statement from the ICC stated, "In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time."

Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sanction, so a formal hearing was not required. The match was disappointing for India, as Australia chased down the target and won, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
