FCI will sell 10.13 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market

Food Corporation of India (FCI) will sell 10.13 lakh tonnes of wheat to bulk consumers in the 6th phase of the e-auction. This e-auction will happen on Wednesday (March 15). This e-auction is being seen as an attempt by the government to rein in the prices of wheat and flour.
To control the prices, the central government has announced to the sale of 50 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market. Out of this, 45 lakh tonnes of wheat has been earmarked for flour mills as well as bulk consumers.
FCI has so far sold 28.85 lakh tonnes of wheat to bulk consumers in the last five phases of e-auction. The official said that the sale of wheat in the open market has helped in bringing down the prices of wheat and flour in the country. This has made it cheaper for the general public to buy wheat and flour.
According to reports, a senior official has told that in the e-auction of wheat and flour, the government will sell 10.13 lakh tonnes of wheat to bulk consumers. This e-auction will be held on March 15. FCI will offer wheat from its 620 depots across the country.
Earlier, FCI had sold 5.39 lakh tonnes of wheat at the rate of Rs 2,197.91 per quintal to bulk consumers and flour mills under Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) in the 5th phase of e-auction. In the first e-auction, 9.13 lakh tonnes of wheat was sold in the open market at the rate of Rs 2,474 per quintal.
