Indian weddings always remain forgotten because you can never forget the outfits, says ace designer Anjali Phougat, who is known for her clothes and jewellery designs in the global fashion circuit. Each and every piece, she says, carries so much significance placed upon it.
Indian weddings are some of a kind, completely elaborate and one of a kind with their rich colours, intricate designs and cultures.” The reason it looks so different from other Indian’s weddings is because each creative detail that is used within the ceremony is deeply rooted in our cultural history. The bride’s lehenga, the groom’s sherwani… each outfit is handcrafted to tell a story… sometimes a story of tradition and sometimes a personal style. Rich fabrics, hand embroidery and ornate jewellery thus make for an unforgettable experience for guests as the two are immersed in a celebration of love and heritage,” she says.
She also talks about the current trends in wedding fashion, which include pastel colour, hand embroidered combinations, and unique silhouettes that veer between traditional and contemporary. For brides, they are opting for feathered lehengas, either in a floral motif and or in sequins, whereas for the grooms it’s the embroidered or velvet jacket that they are mastering. Additionally, more and more people are beginning to go for the sustainable fashion with the usage of ethically sourced fabrics and designs they can re-use or repurpose down the line.”
