BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world. He showed this on Sunday when he increased the prize money of the domestic tournament. But in some cases, its discrimination is still visible. For example, the central contract is given to Indian cricketers. The difference between the central contracts of male and female cricketers is not that of a well but that of a ditch.
Men get money in crores, while women get in lakhs. Not only is there discrimination in the amount, but the board also has double standards in awarding contracts. BCCI has given contracts to male cricketers on March 26, but women cricketers are still waiting. This does not happen on other countries' boards.
Australia gave contracts to both their teams earlier this month. BCCI has also not increased the central contract amount of women cricketers since 2018. Former international cricketer Arundhati Roy says that the BCCI is now working positively to provide equal facilities to women and men players.
The board gives contracts to 26 players in the men's section while only 19 are in the women's section. The men's team has A+, A, B and C grades. The women's team has A, B, and C grades. 7 cr in A+, 5 cr in A, 3 cr in B, and 1 cr in C. In females, it is 50 lakh in grade A, 30 in B, and 10 lacks in C.
82 crores are spent on contracts in the men's section while only 5.1 crores are spent on contracts in the women's section. That is, about 16 times less than male cricket. The entire female cricketers are contracted for a little more than what a male cricketer of Grade A gets.
In 2015, women cricketers got contracts. Then 15 lakhs were available in grade A and 10 lakhs in B. Then male cricketers used to get one crore in A grade, 50 lakh in B and 30 lahks in C. In 2018 Grade C was added to the women's section. 50 lakhs in grade A, 30 lakhs in B, and 10 lakhs in C.
