Due to a commendable half-century reminiscent of the 50-over format by the captain Shai Hope, the West Indian cricket team managed to defeat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in their first T20I match at Kingston yesterday evening. Sri Lanka, batting first, put up a score of 147/9 against which the Windies chased in 19.2 overs.

The West Indian team leads 1-0 in this series of three matches in T20I format. Hope has performed excellently scoring an unbeaten half-century of 65 runs off 54 balls along with five fours and two sixes.

Chasing 148 runs, the West Indian openers Brandon King and Hope batted quite well. King has scored 37 runs off 22 deliveries consisting of two fours and three sixes before being dismissed off the second delivery of the seventh over.

Hope did not receive much support soon afterwards. Shimron Hetmyer has scored 17 off nine deliveries, whereas Roston Chase has contributed with 16 off 26 balls. Rovman Powell has remained undefeated on ten runs off six balls.
