The Tea Board, an agency operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is planning to start a certificate course in tea tasting soon.
On Wednesday, while marking International Tea Day, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal stated that the board is initiating multiple steps for the development of the tea business, and in this regard, serious thought is being given towards initiating a certificate course in tea tasting.
The students pursuing the course will find an opportunity for employment in the tea business. Every attempt is being made to impart the most information about the flavor of tea and the method through which it should be made and consumed.
Barthwal said that, in other words, we can say that we have to increase the literacy related to tea in the country. He said that tea-related tourism is also being promoted. This type of effort will further encourage tea exports. India ranks second in tea production and first in the production of black tea.
India is also the second-largest tea-exporting country in the world after Kenya. India exports tea to more than 20 countries around the world. In the last financial year 2024-25, the export of tea was $ 92.3 million, which is 11.84 percent more than the previous financial year 2023-24.
In April this year, there was a 16 percent increase in tea exports. For the last few years, the production of green tea in India has also been increasing rapidly. On Wednesday, on the occasion of International Tea Day, an exhibition of various types of tea was organized in the Ministry of Commerce.
