India's crowded ride-hailing market is set to witness a major transformation. The new app, named Bharat Taxi and developed in cooperation with the central government, will begin operations from January 1st. The new taxi service will operate under the banner of Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and will promise to be more transparent and friendly to taxi drivers compared to the existing private taxi aggregators.

Customer grievances in the past years included surge pricing, additional fees, and the earnings of drivers. The government has stated that the reason for the introduction of Bharat Taxi is to counter these problems. The no-commission policy will promote equal collaboration between drivers and customers.

Though Bharat Taxi is being launched on a national level, it will first be launched in Delhi. From January 1st onwards, people in Delhi will be able to book taxis, auto rickshaws, and bike taxis through this application. In terms of features, the app will be comparable to existing ride-hailing platforms.

According to government officials, Delhi has been selected as a pilot city. Based on experience gained here, the app will gradually expand to other major cities. The goal is to provide passengers with a reliable government-run alternative in areas where private companies have previously dominated.

To start using the Bharat Taxi app, users must first register and log in. The ride booking process will then be similar to what people are already familiar with.

Passengers will be able to enter pickup and drop-off locations, select their preferred vehicle, and confirm the ride with the nearest available driver. Live tracking will also be provided from start to finish. The app has been deliberately kept simple and familiar to avoid any difficulties for new users.

Bharat Taxi's biggest differentiator is its operational model. While private aggregators charge drivers hefty commissions, Bharat Taxi promises zero commission, giving drivers a significant share of the fare.

According to available information, drivers will receive up to 80 percent of the fare directly, and payments will be made through a monthly credit system. The government believes this will encourage more drivers to join the platform and reduce disputes over earnings.

To maximize Bharat Taxi's reach, it will support multiple Indian languages. This will make the app easier for users in different states to use. A 24x7 customer support system will also be available to ensure prompt resolution of passenger complaints and queries.

For security purposes, the app will be integrated with the Delhi Police and other relevant agencies. Driver verification will be mandatory, and passengers will be able to share ride details with trusted individuals, as is the case with existing platforms.

With government backing, a zero-commission model, and the promise of transparency, Bharat Taxi is entering the market at a time when both drivers and passengers are demanding a fair and reliable ride-hailing system. Its launch in Delhi on January 1st will reveal whether Bharat Taxi will be able to challenge the dominance of private companies.
