AGR Dues Pressure Mounts: Govt Refuses Relief to Bharti Airtel Ahead of March 31 Deadline
AGR Dues: Pressure on telecom companies regarding AGR dues has increased. The government has made it clear that Airtel and Tata Teleservices must pay approximately ₹10,000 crore by March 31, 2026, or else it will be considered a violation of the Supreme Court order.
The telecom industry is once again facing AGR dues issues. Airtel, which is the second-largest telecom operator in India, and Tata Teleservices have to pay a total of ₹10,000 crores by March 31, 2026.
As per news reports, Airtel has to pay more than ₹5,000 crores, and Tata Teleservices has to pay around ₹4,000 crores. It has been reported by the government that failure to pay by the due date will be a violation of the Supreme Court’s order.
Airtel has recently requested more relief from the government. Airtel has said that more relief will be fair to all telecom operators. However, the government has retained its stance and has not given any more relief to Airtel.

In fact, the relief granted to Vodafone Idea (Vi) was based directly on the Supreme Court's decision. No such order has been issued for Airtel and Tata Teleservices, so these companies will have to make full payment on time.
According to experts, Airtel has both the ability and cash flow to repay the outstanding amount, but the company wants relief on similar terms. All eyes are currently on the March 31st deadline.
