UP hoisted the flag in the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign related to plantation, Bengal-Delhi and Tamil Nadu remained far behind
In the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign launched by the Ministry of Forest and Environment, a target of planting 80 crore saplings was set by September 2024. Not only was it achieved five days before September 30, but states like Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan have also created a new record by planting more saplings than the target.
The plantation campaign "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" that has been undertaken in the country, has achieved tremendous success amid such challenges pertaining to climate change. Under such schemes, not only has the target of plantation been achieved before the stipulated time limit, but states like Uttar Pradesh have created new records by planting more saplings than their target.
Meanwhile, states such as West Bengal, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu have performed very weakly, always keeping them far behind their plantation target. This plantation campaign was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. He planted a sapling in the name of his mother on the occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June.
Under this campaign started by the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the target for sowing 80 crore saplings was set to be achieved before September 2024. However, states like Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan achieved much more than that five days in advance before September 30th, creating a new record by planting more saplings than the target. While the state of Uttar Pradesh was given a target for only 25.25 crores, during the period, it has managed to plant 26.67 crore saplings. On the same lines, Gujarat planted 15.5 crore saplings and stood second in this campaign.
Under the campaign, Gujarat was given the target of planting 12.20 crore saplings. The special thing is that this campaign will run next year also. In such a situation, a target of sowing 140 crore saplings has been set in the entire country in these two years. Under the campaign, 80.84 crore saplings have been planted till September 2024.
According to the Ministry of Forest and Environment, under the campaign, West Bengal has been given the target of planting 1.30 crore saplings by September 2024, while it has planted only three lakh saplings. At the same time, Tamil Nadu was given the target of planting 42 lakh saplings, while it has planted only four lakh saplings. Similarly, Delhi was given the target of planting 30 lakh saplings, while it has planted only two lakh saplings.
