According to the data, production of tea in July 2023 has increased by 6.2 percent to 165.01 million kg from 155.29 million kg in the same period last year. Tea production in the country is increasing every year. According to the data, tea production increased by 6.2 percent to 165.01 million kg in July 2023, compared to 155.29 million kg in the previous same period.
According to the latest Tea Board data, tea production in North India during July stood at 143.05 million kg, compared to 135.77 million kg in the previous corresponding period. Whereas in July the production in South India was 21.95 million kg, which was 19.52 million kg in the same period last year.
The percentage of production by small tea growers as a proportion of total quantity increased to 50.9 percent in July 2023. Thus in the last same month of 2022, it was 50.2 percent.
In North India, both the states of Assam and West Bengal have recorded the highest production in the last month i.e. July 2023. According to the data, the crop of premium Darjeeling variety was less by one million kg during July 2023, compared to 1.04 million kg in the previous corresponding period.
India ranks second after China in tea production. India is one of the countries with the highest tea consumption in the world. Local people consume 80 percent of the tea produced here.
