Ravichandran Ashwin questions Ravindra Jadeja’s approach vs spin, highlights poor strike rate since IPL 2020
Ravindra Jadeja's Biggest Weakness: Former India off-spinner R. Ashwin has expressed concern over Ravindra Jadeja's cautious approach against spin. He has also highlighted a long-standing problem Jadeja has faced in T20 cricket.

The batting ability of Ravindra Jadeja against spin bowling has come into question by R. Ashwin. After IPL 2020, Jadeja has not been able to score quickly against spinners. The opponents tend to employ spinners in the middle overs to restrict him. Between 2020 and 2025, his strike rate against spinners has been 94.28, which is one of the lowest strike rates against spinners among the middle order players. His average against spin bowling since 2018 has been 21.22. His strike rate goes under 100 against spinners, particularly those spinning the ball away from him.
This trend persists during IPL 2026 as well. In IPL 2026 thus far, Jadeja has managed to score just two sixes in 117 deliveries. Although Jadeja remains a reliable finisher against fast bowling, his role for Rajasthan Royals this season doesn't seem to be very effective. Instead of attacking the bowlers, he has been tasked with anchoring the innings during spin overs.
This was also evident in Friday night's match against Delhi Capitals, where Jadeja was sent in to bat ahead of Donovan Ferreira, but he failed to make much of an impact. He scored 20 runs in 14 balls, hitting just one four and one six, before falling to Mitchell Starc.
