The presence of dolphins indicates a healthy river system as clean, flowing water is needed for their survival. Their population helps scientists assess the overall health of a river. It should be noted that in 2020, Project Dolphin was launched by India as a conservation initiative to protect dolphins in both freshwater rivers and coastal waters. While its primary focus is on the Ganges river dolphin, which is native to India's river systems.
