Ratan Tata had to shift the plant of the Lakhtakia Tata Nano car from Bengal to Gujarat, know the story behind it

The country's leading industrialist Ratan Tata died at the age of 86. His death has sparked a wave of mourning throughout the country. Leaders from Bollywood to a variety of global platforms have expressed grief. Ratan Tata has made an invaluable contribution to the industry. Ratan Tata envisioned creating a car for the average Indian for Rs 1 lakh. However, he had to deal with numerous challenges during this project. Ratan Tata had to relocate his Tata Motors plant from West Bengal to Gujarat due to political tensions over the land given to him by the Bengal government for the project.

Ratan Tata announced in 2006 that he would establish the Tata Nano Singur Plant in Singur, in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, as a manufacturing facility for his Nano car, which sells for Rs 1 lakh. This project was considered the most significant for the state's industrial development by Left Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya at the time. However, Mamata Banerjee, the opponent, had been adamant about her opposition to this project. The company was granted land to establish this plant by the state government. Nonetheless, the project faced strong opposition from the local community. The farmers here were against the acquisition of their land and the state government had already given the land to Tata. Mamata Banerjee had strongly opposed this.

Tata Motors had begun the construction and building process of the factory for making Nano. Simultaneously, Mamata Banerjee, with the support of farmers, initiated the Khet Bachao Andolan. On August 24, 2008, Mamata Banerjee demanded the return of 400 acres of the available 1000 acres of land acquired upon which the project was established, and she even had blocked the Durgapur Express Highway. There was such a lot of opposition to this Tata project that finally, on 3 October 2008, Tata decided to move out of Singur. Ratan Tata blamed Mamta Banerjee and her supporters' agitation for this decision. After this, on 7 October 2008, Tata declared that he would set up the Tata Nano plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
