Western Disturbance Worsens Winter: Daytime Temperatures Drop Sharply in Rajasthan

The impact of the western disturbance has increased the cold wave in Rajasthan. Presently, the cold wave is so intense that the city is feeling the effects of extreme cold even during the daytime. On Friday, the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, announced an orange and yellow alert due to the dense fog in the entire state’s 20 districts. A cold wave is awaited in the state from January 4, and the minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the night and daytime temperatures were similar in the districts of the city. The lowest daytime temperature of the season has been recorded in Sriganganagar. Jaipur, Alwar, Bikaner, and Churu are the districts whose daytime temperatures were below 20 degrees Celsius. As the sun went down, dense fog reached the Northern districts.

Rajsamand Lake was completely shrouded in fog on Thursday morning. The sun did not rise until noon, and a cold effect persisted throughout the day. The Jaipur division, as well as Bharatpur and surrounding areas, experienced cloudy skies in the morning, with light rain at some locations. Most areas in Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Bikaner divisions remained overcast until noon, making the day feel as cold as night. On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Sriganganagar was recorded at 14.3 degrees Celsius, while the daytime temperature in Jaipur was 18.6 degrees Celsius. Dense fog enveloped Barmer in the morning, reducing visibility to less than 50 meters.

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, the cold will intensify in the state from January 4th. The minimum night temperature is expected to drop by about 4 degrees. Currently, the minimum temperature in most cities remains above 10 degrees Celsius, while the lowest minimum temperature on Thursday was 8 degrees Celsius in Alwar.
