This year the southwest monsoon is progressing rapidly on account of the influence of Somali Jet (low-level wind jet). Meteorologists have fixed the onset of the monsoon in Rajasthan on June 20, but at the moment it is progressing 15 days prior to its time-bound schedule. It can reach Rajasthan by the first half of the month of June at the pace at which it is progressing.

Somali Jet are low-level wind streams where low-level winds from Mauritius and Madagascar are blowing and are in a fast-moving mode carrying the southwest monsoon along with them. Till now, the monsoon has already crossed Mumbai in Maharashtra. By the end of May, it is expected to reach central India.

Since the beginning of Nautapa in Rajasthan, a period of storm and rain has started. This has also brought down the temperature. Today, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of storm and rain in 13 districts of eastern and south-eastern Rajasthan and 2 districts of western Rajasthan. These include Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bharatpur, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer.

According to the Meteorological Department, the sequence of storm and rain will continue in the state for the next 5 days. Due to this, a drop has also been seen in the maximum temperature level. However, heat waves are still going on in western Rajasthan.
