Niger Crisis: Advisory issued for Indians living in Niger, advice to return to India soon
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the Government of India is closely following the developments in Niger. Indian nationals whose presence is not essential in view of the prevailing situation are advised to leave the country at the earliest. Arindam Bagchi said that they should keep in mind that the airspace is currently closed.
In view of the increasing violence, India has advised its citizens to leave Niger as soon as possible. Also said that those who are not registered with the Indian Embassy in Niamey should do this work immediately. Presently 250 Indians are living in Niger. It has seen an increase in demonstrations and violence since the military coup.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a guideline on Friday that those planning to visit Niger should refrain from doing so till the situation there improves. They should think again about their journey. Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that India is monitoring the situation in Niger.
There was a coupon on 26 May in Niger. After the coup, the military seized power by removing the president. After this, the President was taken into custody. United Nations including America and Europe had expressed concern over this.
