The tech giant Microsoft has announced its largest investment in India to date, marking the onset of a new era in India's digital economy and the world of artificial intelligence. After a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella said Wednesday that the company will invest ₹1.5 lakh crore (about $17.5 billion) in India.

This is the biggest single investment by Microsoft in Asia to date. Microsoft's move reflects the rapid increase in India's stature across the technology world. Following the meeting, Satya Nadella shared a photo with Prime Minister Modi on the social media platform X, writing, "This meeting on Wednesday evening not only strengthened India-US technology ties but also gave a new impetus to India's AI ambitions."

Nadella said, "Thank you, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for an inspiring conversation on AI opportunities in India. To support the country's ambitions, Microsoft is pledging an investment of $17.5 billion (approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore)—our largest investment ever in Asia. This investment will help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India's 'AI-first future.'"

Responding to Nadella's post, Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, "The world is looking forward to India when it comes to AI. Had a very productive discussion with Satya Nadella. Glad to see India becoming the place where Microsoft will make its largest investment in Asia. India's youth will use this opportunity to innovate and leverage the power of AI for a better planet." Welcoming Microsoft's historic announcement, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence in India's youth power and innovation potential.
