Ishan Kishan Ruled Out of Duleep Trophy 2025 Due to Injury; Ashirwad Swain Named Replacement

Engaged wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the Duleep Trophy 2025 due to injury. Kishan was appointed captain of the East Zone team for the tournament, but his injury has halted his participation. The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled for next month, with team selection expected to be announced on August 19. As a result, his chances of making it into the Indian squad have taken a significant hit.

The Odisha Cricket Association confirmed the update on social media platform X, stating that Odisha wicketkeeper-batsman Ashirwad Swain has been named as Kishan's replacement in the East Zone team for the Duleep Trophy. Swain will join Sandeep Patnaik on the squad, while Swastik Samal has been named as a standby.

Kishan was previously not selected as a replacement for Rishabh Pant in the last Test against England due to injury. The selectors had hoped Kishan would recover fully and perform well in the Duleep Trophy to strengthen his case for the Asia Cup. However, his injury has caused further setbacks. In his absence, the East Zone captaincy may now be handed over to Abhimanyu Easwaran.
