IPL 2026 Auction: Deepak Hooda Among Bowlers With Suspect Actions Flagged by BCCI
Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled for December 16th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has informed franchises about bowlers with suspect bowling actions.
The IPL auction for the 2026 season is set to take place on December 16th in Abu Dhabi. The BCCI has already made known to the franchises in the IPL about certain bowlers who have questionable bowling actions. This has reduced the prospects of such bowlers being chosen in the IPL auction. Deepak Hooda, who played seven matches last season but didn't bowl a single over, is also on that list. The Chennai Super Kings released Hooda. Hooda has registered himself in the base price category of ₹75 lakh.
Other than Deepak Hooda, another leg-spinner from Jammu & Kashmir, Abid Mushtaq, is also part of the list of bowlers who have doubtful actions. The base price of Abid Mushtaq is set at ₹30 lakhs. KL Shrijith from Karnataka, as well as Rishabh Chauhan from Madhya Pradesh, are part of the list of bowlers with doubtful actions. This clearly means that if these four players do not improve their bowling actions, their participation in IPL 2026 will be difficult.
Deepak Hooda has bowled only one over in the Ranji Trophy this season, while he bowled five overs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Since IPL 2025, he has bowled only six overs in domestic cricket so far. Therefore, if he is called up along with other bowlers with suspect actions, he could face a ban from bowling in the IPL.
It should be noted that Deepak Hooda has played 10 ODIs and 21 T20 matches for the Indian team. With the bat, he has scored 153 runs in 10 ODIs and 368 runs at an average of 30 in T20s. With the ball, he has taken only three wickets in ODIs and six wickets in T20s. Deepak Hooda was included in the Indian team as an all-rounder. However, his lack of performance led to his exclusion from the ODI team after 2022 and the T20 team after 2023.

His last match for the Indian team was against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on February 1, 2023. Deepak Hooda has represented Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He has scored 1496 runs in 125 IPL matches so far and has taken only 10 wickets.
