India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan Boycotts Feb 15 Match, India to Follow Protocols
India vs Pakistan, T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan has decided to boycott the match against India on February 15th. Despite this, the Indian team will travel to Pakistan and follow all protocols before the match.
Pakistan has decided not to play against India in the T20 World Cup 2026. The scheduled match was set for February 15th at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While the Pakistani government has allowed the team to participate under certain conditions, India plans to travel to Colombo for the game. According to ICC rules, the match referee determines the outcome, meaning India must follow match protocols despite the boycott. The team will practice, hold press conferences, and arrive at the ground for the toss. The referee will then decide, and if the Pakistani captain does not appear, India will win by walkover.
Pakistan has not provided a reason for not playing the match. Consequently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) could face severe penalties from the ICC. The ICC warned the PCB to reconsider its stance in an official statement, emphasizing that tournaments rely on integrity, competition, and fairness. The ICC highlighted that selective participation damages the spirit of the game. Although ICC respects government roles in national policies, this decision is viewed as detrimental to the global cricket community, including fans in Pakistan.
The ICC stated they expect PCB to consider the long-term effects on cricket in Pakistan, as such decisions can impact the international cricket ecosystem. The ICC's main goal remains the successful organization of the Men's T20 World Cup, a responsibility shared by all members, including the PCB. It is hoped the PCB will find a solution that benefits all stakeholders.
Uncertainty remains about the team's status for knockout matches. After Bangladesh's withdrawal from the tournament on January 24—due to security concerns—PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi indicated that the final decision rests with the government, raising questions about Pakistan's participation in the 2026 event. Bangladesh was replaced by Scotland after refusing to play in India, citing security issues.
