India caught 2601 Bangladeshis on Bangladesh border, success after BSF alert

Border Security Force personnel are on alert on the Bangladesh border. So far 2601 Bangladeshis have been caught. Surveillance has also been increased on the Bangladesh border. The Union Home Ministry shared this information in the Rajya Sabha. The lowest number of 32 Bangladeshi citizens were caught in May 2024. The government is taking advanced surveillance manpower enhancement and technical integration to strengthen border security.

The Home Ministry has informed the Rajya Sabha that in the last 13 months, 2,601 Bangladeshi citizens have been caught on the India-Bangladesh border while illegally entering Indian territory. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply that these arrests took place between January 1, 2024, and January 31, 2025.

176 intruders from Bangladesh were caught by the BSF during the month of January 2025. 253 Bangladeshis were caught during December according to the 2024 data, 310 Bangladeshis were caught during November, 331 were caught during October, and 300 were caught during September. The lowest number of 32 were caught during the month of May 2024.

Advanced surveillance, manpower reinforcement, and technological convergence are the strategies the government is employing to strengthen the protection of the borders. Handheld thermal imagers, night vision devices, UAVs, PTZ/CCTV cameras, IR sensors, and a Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) are the strategies employed. There is frequent patrolling, checkpoints, observation posts, and collaborative operations with the local police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along the borders.
