At least 14 people died in incidents related to heavy rains in Rajasthan on Sunday. At the same time, five people were swept away in the strong current of the Kanota Dam in the capital Jaipur. Officials said that after continuous rains since Saturday night, a flood-like situation has arisen in Karauli and Hinduan in eastern Rajasthan. At the same time, seven people drowned while bathing in the river in Bharatpur.

A rescue operation is being carried out to search for missing people. Officials said eight youths from Srinagar village were bathing in the Banganga river in Bharatpur when they drowned one after the other in the deep waters. The deceased have been identified as Pawan Singh Jatav, 20, Saurabh Jatav, 18, Gaurav Jatav, 16, Bhupendra Jatav, 18, Shantanu Jatav, 18, Lakkhi Jatav, 20 and Pawan Jatav, 22.

In Jaipur, five people had gone to a dam for a picnic when they were swept away by the strong currents, officials said. Three people drowned while bathing in a pond in Mehrana village in Jhunjhunu. All of them were residents of Sanwalod village. Police said the deceased have been identified as Anuj Meghwal (22), Bulkesh (21) and Anuj Kumar (20). Police said that father-son duo Zakir Khan (40) and Zia Khan (12) died after being buried under the debris of a house that collapsed due to heavy rains in Karauli on Sunday.

Authorities in Karauli have urged people to avoid going to areas near rivers as about 8,000 cusecs of water have been released from the Panchna dam in the district. They said that the Parvati, Gambhir, and Banganga rivers are in spate and teams of Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force have been deployed to rescue vulnerable people.

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains at some places in eastern Rajasthan and has predicted that the monsoon will remain active in many parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions for the next five to six days. During this period, moderate to heavy rains are likely in many places in the state.
