Google Maps Gets Smarter: New Explorer Tab, EV Charger Updates, and More
Four new features have been added to Google Maps: Gemini integration, an improved EV charger locator, an updated Explorer tab, and a new review option for local businesses. Gemini provides restaurant and hotel information, the Explorer tab shows nearby locations, and the EV charger locator indicates charging station availability. New options for leaving reviews will also be available during the holiday season.
Google Maps has begun to roll out four new features. The latest additions to Maps will be helpful in trips and daily travel. These updates include integration with Gemini, an improved EV charger locator, a refreshed Explorer tab, and the ability to add reviews of local businesses. Some of these have been released, while others will roll out over the coming days in select countries.
Users will be able to use Gemini in Google Maps to research restaurants, hotels, and venues, along with other places. The tool offers users reviews and any information available about a location prior to their visit. This is great for finding places to park and menus, among other things. This feature has been launched in the US for Android and iOS users.
The Explorer tab of Google Maps now highlights nearby places and activities. Users simply swipe up to see trending spots, restaurants, and popular places nearby. Recommendations from Lonely Planet, OpenTable, Viator, and local creators will also be available in this tab. Google has launched this feature globally on iOS and Android.

The EV charging locator was added to Google Maps in 2022. Now, Google has added new features to it. Now, when users search for EV chargers in Maps, data will be displayed on how many chargers will be available upon reaching the location. This system will work in conjunction with AI. Google will soon launch this feature globally for Android Auto and Google built-in cars.
Google is adding new themed review profiles for holiday-season review users. Users can change their name and photo when submitting a review. This update will be released globally.
