Foreign Minister Jaishankar and NSA Doval will not attend the BRICS meeting, decision taken after Pahalgam attack

The planned visit of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to Brazil has been put off against the backdrop of growing tension with Pakistan.

Both were to take part in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers and NSAs of the BRICS  countries there. Both had already approved attending the meeting because the July 2025 BRICS summit declaration was to be concluded on the basis of the deliberations held in these sessions.

Nevertheless, India's representative D. Ravi will take part in BRICS. Ravi is presently in Brazil, where preparations for the upcoming meetings are underway.

The cancellation of foreign visits by the External Affairs Minister and the NSA can be understood considering the kind of reaction that has been seen in India since the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.

A total of 26 people have been confirmed dead in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Many people have also been injured and are undergoing treatment.
