Election: Not allowing 100% VVPAT matching is cheating the voters, Congress made this request

Congress emphasised the importance of maintaining election transparency on Wednesday, stating that it is unfair to voters to prevent 100% matching of "Voter Verifiable Paper Audit" (VVPAT) slips.

Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said on the social media platform that the constituent parties of the opposition alliance 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance' (India) are demanding that the matching of VVPAT slips should be increased to 100 per cent. Ramesh said that on April 8, 2019, the Supreme Court had requested the Election Commission to increase the number of election booths with VVPAT slip matching. Bureau

Referring to the court case, he said, the case is 'N Chandrababu Naidu vs Union of India'. Yes, the same Chandrababu Naidu who was once known as the hi-tech Chief Minister. Naidu was then the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The Election Commission's reluctance to engage with 'India' constituent parties on this issue raises even more questions, he said. Ramesh questioned whether the Election Commission should not make efforts to bring more accountability and transparency in this technology.

On Wednesday, Congress charged that the federal government was unfairly treating the nation's average citizens while providing tax breaks to a few large corporate entities. According to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, personal income tax revenue exceeds corporate tax revenue. He claimed that while the poor are suffering from price increases and onerous taxes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is benefiting his friends by slashing corporate taxes.
