Dropped Again, Karun Nair Questions Selectors’ Decision: ‘I Deserve Much Better’

Indian squad sensation Karun Nair has attacked Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir for dropping him from the Test squad and India A squad. The Karnataka batsman had come back to the longest version of the game after an eight-year gap during the India vs. England series, but his show did not meet expectations, and thus, he was dropped. After scoring an unbeaten 174 in the Karnataka vs. Goa match of the second round of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, Nair said, "I am disappointed at not being included in the Indian team and I deserve better."

According to a TOI report, Karun Nair said he was disappointed with the national selectors after being dropped from the Test squad for the series against the West Indies. Nair had to work hard to return to the Test team and performed consistently well in all formats of cricket in domestic tournaments. The Karnataka batsman said, "The selectors may have their opinions, but I feel I deserve much better."

Nair said, "It's very disappointing, but I know that after my performance over the last two years, I deserve to be in this position. People may have their own opinions, but personally, I believe I deserve much better." It's worth noting that Nair got a good start in the series against England. He scored 20-30 runs, but he never capitalized on it. His only half-century came in the fifth Test, but it wasn't enough to keep him in the Test team.

Karun Nair had an average of 42.50 for six innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and then played exceptionally well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made four centuries on the trot and had an incredible average of 389.50. Nair carried his good form to the Ranji Trophy, making 53.94 at an average of 16 innings. After a long wait of eight years, he returned to action in the series against England, but that was where it all ended.
