DFCCIL Strengthens Supply Chain with 48% Rise in Freight Movement and New Cargo Hubs

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) recorded a remarkable 48 percent increase in freight train operations in the financial year 2024-25. The corporation reported that approximately one ton of freight was transported over a total distance of 11.5 million kilometers during this period.

Railway Board Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Satish Kumar gave this information at the DFCCIL's 20th Foundation Day celebrations held at Bharat Mandapam on Friday. According to officials, DFCCIL operated an average of 381 freight trains per day in the last financial year. The company stated that India's total logistics cost is estimated at approximately ₹24 lakh crore, and DFCCIL's operations have significantly contributed to reducing this cost from 14% of GDP to approximately 8-9%.

A total of 139,302 trains were successfully operated during the review period, reaching 2,002,271 million gross tonne kilometers (GTKM) and 1149.79 million net tonne kilometers (NTKM). The company noted that this year, the country's longest freight train, named "Rudra," successfully operated, with 4.5 kilometers of freight, 354 wagons, and seven engines.

DFCCIL has also strengthened connectivity through dynamic cargo terminals (GCTs) and multimodal logistics hubs (MMLHs). The Gothangam GCT was inaugurated in March 2025, while the New Daud Khan and New Ankleshwar terminals were also commissioned.

Initiatives such as "Truck on Train" and "High-Speed ​​Small Cargo Service" are driving a major shift in rail transportation. DFCCIL states that these initiatives are helping connect local industries to national and global markets, making supply chains more efficient and further reducing logistics costs.
