Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched a fresh portal for Overseas Citizens of India recently. The new portal, based on user feedback given by OCI cardholders, is made easy for old cardholders and also for those who have applied for a new OCI card. The old portal for OCI was built in 2013, and it was replaced by the new portal recently.

Inaugurating the portal, Amit Shah stated that people with origins from India reside in numerous nations across the globe. It is essential that they do not encounter any hassle while visiting India and residing here, and that is how this portal is going to assist them.

Explaining the aspects of the new portal, he stated that the user signup and registration menu have been differentiated in it. For it, user details will be automatically filled in the registration form. A specific dashboard is designed to display filled as well as incomplete applications. With it, applicants to FRRO have been offered the advantage of an online integrated payment gateway.

Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is constantly trying to provide world-class immigration facilities to its OCI cardholder citizens. It is worth noting that the OCI cardholder scheme was started in 2005. Under this, persons of Indian origin were given the facility to register as overseas citizens of India. For this, one must have been a citizen of India on or after 26 January 1950 or be eligible to become a citizen of India on that date. The OCI portal is operational in over 180 Missions abroad as well as 12 FRROs.
