WhatsApp Working on Cover Photo Feature for Personal Accounts
WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a new feature that will allow any user to add a cover photo to their profile. Previously, this feature was only available for WhatsApp Business accounts. This change will make the profile customization experience more personal. However, it is currently in development and may be rolled out later with an update.
Profile photos and cover images are vital to making one's social networking profiles more personalized. So far, cover photos were exclusive to WhatsApp Business accounts, but it seems that the Meta-owned messaging app is developing this feature for use by all users in the future. This is seen as a significant change towards enhancing profile customization. Nevertheless, the feature is under development at the moment, and therefore, it might be some time before it reaches users.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to upload cover photos to their profiles. When this feature rolls out, users will be able to select any image as their cover photo by going to their profile settings. This photo will appear in the top section of their profile, just like on Facebook and LinkedIn.
The report also shared a screenshot of what the cover photo selection screen will look like. The company is also planning to introduce a new privacy setting alongside this feature, allowing users to choose who can see their cover photo. Three options have been shown in testing: Everyone, My contacts, and Nobody—similar to the status and profile photo settings.

If users select "Everyone," their cover photo will be visible to all WhatsApp users, even if they are not in their contact list. "My contacts" means only saved contacts will be able to see the photo, while "Nobody" will hide the photo from everyone.
This feature is currently in development for Android users on WhatsApp beta version 2.25.32.2, which is rolling out to testers through the Google Play Beta Program. While this feature isn't accessible even to testers right now, it seems that in the future, not just WhatsApp Business users, but all users will be able to set a cover photo on their profile.
