The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has gotten off to a strong start. Some records were broken in the initial phase itself, and centuries by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave an even more thrilling start into the tournament. On Wednesday, Karnataka made the second-largest chase in List A cricket history, the first in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, against Jharkhand. The largest chase in List A cricket history was made by South Africa against Australia with a target of 435 runs in the year 2006.

In this match, Jharkhand, while batting first, scored 412 runs in 50 overs while losing 9 wickets, with explosive batting by Ishan Kishan of 125 runs. Karnataka then scored 413 runs in the 48th over of their match, making a record win. Devdutt Padikkal played a stormy innings of 137 runs, hitting 10 fours and 7 sixes in his innings.

In this match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Karnataka won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jharkhand did not have a good start, with Utkarsh Singh and Shubham Sharma returning to the pavilion early. Subsequently, Virat Singh and Shikhar Mohan formed a strong partnership and took the team past 100. Shikhar Mohan was dismissed for 44 runs, while Virat Singh scored 88 runs in 68 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Kushagr Kumar then scored 63 runs in 47 balls. Coming in to bat at number six, Ishan Kishan created havoc, scoring a century in just 33 balls. He became the second-fastest batsman to score a century in List A cricket history. Kishan scored 125 runs in 39 balls, including 7 fours and 14 sixes. Thanks to this innings, Jharkhand reached 412 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs.

Chasing the target of 413 runs, Karnataka got off to a strong start. Captain Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal shared a century partnership for the first wicket. Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for 54, hitting 10 fours in his innings. Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant innings of 147 runs in 118 balls. Karun Nair and Smran Ravichandran then played useful innings. Thanks to Abhinav Manohar's half-century and Dhruv Prabhakar's 40 runs, Karnataka achieved the target in the 48th over for the loss of 5 wickets.
